How to Read the Bible Like Jesus by Jordan

Attempting to avoid the haughty presumption that we could see all that Christ sees in Scripture, we are well-served to remember that Christians have the same Spirit indwelling them as Christ has indwelling Him.

So, how did Jesus read the Bible? Three words and two examples come to mind.

Thoughtfully, carefully, and prayerfully Jesus read the Bible one word at a time. As He gave this sort of attention to each word of Scripture, His (1) eschatology and His (2) Christology was formed one word at a time.

  • Christ's eschatology, in the example cited from Mark 12 was built off of the present tense of one two-letter verb--"am" (as opposed to "was").
  • Christ's Christology, in the example cited from Mark 12 was also built off of one four-letter word, "Lord".

If you want to read the Bible like Jesus, don't skim. Think, take care, and pray... over each and every word. As you do, the Spirit of Jesus will preach Jesus to you through the Bible.
