Your Pen Poked Out My Eye
![]()
Dear Mr. President Obama,
Welcome to the Presidency of the United States of America!
And thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read my short letter on your first full day in office. I am honored!
A small group of pastors I know met in downtown Memphis today and prayed for you. I thought it was such a powerful picture as they sat only 15 blocks removed from the balcony where Dr. King's life was prematurely taken. His assassination was a horrific injustice!
I realize your high volume of daily introductions might mean that you do not remember me? But the way you looked deeply into my eyes, and appeared to be contemplating your every move, makes me think otherwise. Either way, I have a quick question.
Did your stomach turn when your pen poked out my 17-week-old eye ball?
Any response would be appreciated. I've asked my mom to read me your reply as soon as it comes in.
Signed,
Every child whose death was made more accessible by your signing of the "Freedom of Choice Act."
PS - I posted this from the womb in the hope that you would not reach for your pen. It seemed worth the preventative maintenence ; ).
I wouldn't expect a personal greeting when you respond, but if dad finds out I'm a boy he'd like to name me Hudson Micaiah. Girl names are still up in the air. I'd write to them too and let them know who I am, but since they're going to the doctor to see me tomorrow I realized my letter wouldn't make it to them before then.
