June-August | Summer of Spreading Christ

How do your feet look?

Or, maybe a more clarifying set of questions would be this:

How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed?  How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard?  And how will they hear without a preacher?  How will they preach unless they are sent?  Just as it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things." - Romans 10:14-15

My guess is that most of us have some pretty ugly feet, not because we don't have the "good news of good things", but rather we aren't "bringing" it to those around us.

"Summer of Spreading 2009" should more aptly be termed this "Three months of your vapor of a life, that should, in accordance to God's word, be spent spreading the glory of Jesus Christ to everyone".  Now, I know that is a bit much for a title, but the truth is, I'm not reaching for a title for three months of your life, but instead trying to inspire you to be a people who are passionate about sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Rather than bombard your summer schedules with planned events to go and share the gospel, we want to be biblical in our evangelism.  No cheesy hotdog celebrations or pizza and ice cream socials in mass scales. Just you, the gospel, and a neighbor.  The evangelism strategy of the Bible is you sharing the gospel with people, and that is the strategy of this church.

If you are reading this, you have just entered the Grace Church "Summer of Spreading" Commissioning Service.

God says:

Matthew 28:19-20  "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, i am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Acts 1:8  "but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

So, OBEY!

I do have some ideas that might be helpful:

  1. Read the entire book of Acts every few weeks.  It's amazing to see the early church seize opportunities God ordained and simply preach Jesus Christ crucified and Him resurrected.  The result was God regenerating cold stoney hearts to love and glorify Jesus.
  2. Host a community grill out.  Invite the neighbors, build relationships, and speak gospel truths.Invite neighbors over for dinner.  Have gospel conversation.
  3. Prayer-walk your community.
  4. Invite another Grace couple/singles over for dinner, and then pray and walk through your community.
  5. Seize every God ordained opportunity and preach the gospel.
