The Supremacy of Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus and His gospel accomplishments are the supreme subject of the whole Bible — Christ’s supremacy ought to be enjoyed in the Christian life — & Christ’s supremacy ought to be displayed in the local church

In Scripture

  • Christ in Eternity Past – cf. John 1:1; 17:5; Micah 5:2; Heb 13:8; Rev 1:8; 4:11.
  • Christ as Creator – cf. John 1:3; Colossians 1:16-17; Hebrews 1:2, 10
  • Christ in Adam’s Day – cf. Genesis 3:8, 15, 21; Romans 5:14
  • Christ in Abraham’s Day – cf. Romans 4:16; John 8:56, 58; Gal 3:16
  • Christ in Moses’ Day – cf. John 1:45; 3:14-16; 5:39-47; Luke 24:25-27
  • Christ in David’s Day – cf. Psalm 110:1-4; Matt 22:41-45; Acts 2:25-36
  • Christ in the Prophets’ Day – cf. Luke 24:44; Acts 10:43; 2 Peter 1:20-21
  • Christ Revealed in the Flesh – cf. Matt 1:21; 16:16; John 20:31; 1 John 5:12
  • Christ in the Apostles’ Day – cf. Acts 28:23; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; 1 Tim 3:15-16
  • Christ in Eternity Future – cf. Revelation 21:22-23

In the Christian Life

  • Christ, the Christian’s Ardent Love – 1 Peter 1:8
  • Christ, the Christian’s Consuming Desire – Psalm 27:4
  • Christ, the Christian’s Chief Aspiration – Philippians 1:20-21
  • Christ, the Christian’s Pervasive Aroma – 2 Corinthians 2:14-17
  • Christ, the Christian’s Constraining Ambition – 2 Corinthians 5:8-9
  • Christ, the Christian’s Quenching Portion – Psalm 63:1-8
  • Christ, the Christian’s Infinite Reward – John 14:21

In the Local Church

  • Christ in Preaching – The Supremacy of Christ in expository exultation
  • Christ in Prayer – The Supremacy of Christ in dependence upon God
  • Christ in Worship – The Supremacy of Christ in our affections
  • Christ in Teaching – The Supremacy of Christ in biblical maturity
  • Christ in Fellowship – The Supremacy of Christ in biblical community
  • Christ in Evangelism – The Supremacy of Christ through gospel witness
  • Christ in Missions – The Supremacy of Christ through church planting

As Jesus is elevated to His rightful place through the Word, in His people, and in His church, the congregation will have correspondingly greater degrees of delight in love to Him and one another (cf. 1 John 4:7-19).
