Hows that for a blog post title?
This Sunday, we will invite a guest preacher, the puritan Thomas Vincent to the pulpit. Pray for Pastor Nathan who will preach from Mr. Vincent’s excellent discourse on 1 Peter 1:8-9: “The True Christian’s Love to the Unseen Christ.” It’s good for these words from the introduction to fall on us:
“…the following discourse of the true Christian’s love to the unseen Christ, is not finely spun and woven with neatness of wit and language. It is not flourished and set off with a variety of metaphors, hyperboles, rhetorical elegancies, or poetical fancies and fragments. It is not adorned and fringed with the specious show of many marginal quotations, excerpted out of divers authors. The discourse is plain—but the author has endeavored that it might be warm; his design being more to advance his Master, than himself, in your esteem; and if he has less of your praise, so that his Lord may have more of your love—his great end is attained.”
Note, this week’s service is from 10:30-11:30. There will be no GraceKids hour before the service or nursery provided during the service. Bring them youngins! The more the merrier! After the service grab some folks to grub and fellowship with (hint hint).
It’s good and right to prepare your soul for corporate worship. Can I encourage you (and me!) to soak your soul in 1 Peter 1:8-9. Gaze long at the Christ bound up in these verses. Ask the Holy Spirit to change you (2 Cor. 3:18). Expect.
Take the time to read through all, or some of “The True Christian’s Love to the Unseen Christ.” You can find it here. I’d love to persuade you to read it once a year. Yep, it’s one of those.
Prepare to sing: O Come O Come Emmanuel, Man of Sorrows, and All Glory Be to Christ.
As was mentioned in last week’s service, the city is currently preparing to work on AW Willis Ave. This means that the parking lot normally used by GC on Sunday is no longer available for the foreseeable future. Thankfully, Bridges has a rooftop parking deck! Access for the rooftop deck (with plenty of parking) is off of 4th street. We’re asking all of our peeps and visitors to the use the deck. There are a few parking spots on 5th street, but we’re requesting that these be left for those who need handicap access for our services. Thank you!
